How-toSetting up an instmail account on an Android smartphone
The following is a short set of instructions on how to set up a Heidelberg University instmail account on an Android smartphone. An email address with the institute abbreviation “alumni” is used as an example.
1. On your smartphone, please go to “Settings” and tap "Users & accounts".
2. Then tap "Add account".
3. Please select "Email".
4. In the “Email address” field, enter your alumni email address: first-name.last-name[@]institute-abbreviation.uni-heidelberg.de
Important: Here and in the following instructions, please always replace the placeholder institute-abbreviation with the correct institute from your email address.
Example: For the email address max.mustermann[@]alumni.uni-heidelberg.de, alumni is the correct institute abbreviation.
Please tap on "Next".
5. Enter the following information:
- Username: first-name.last-name[@]institute-abbreviation.uni-heidelberg.de
- Password: The matching password
- Server: mail.institute-abbreviation.uni-heidelberg.de
- Port: 993
- Security type: SSL/TLS
- IMAP Path Prefix
Please tap on "Next".
6. Enter the following information:
- SMTP server: mail.urz.uni-heidelberg.de
- Port: 587
- Security type: STARTTLS
- Username: first-name.last-name[@]institute-abbreviation.uni-heidelberg.de
- Password: The matching password
The box next to “Require sign-in” must be checked.
Please tap on "Next".
7. The boxes next to “Notify me when email arrives” and “Sync email from this account” must be checked.
Please tap on "Next".
8. Finished. You can now find your emails in the Email app on your Android smartphone.
