JMP has no longer been included in the SAS package since 01.01.2025.

Statistical assessment and analysis of data

SAS is a software for statistical evaluation and analysis of data, similar to IBM SPSS Statistics, Stata and R. The strength of this software lies in its numerous interfaces for database applications and its (nearly) unlimited capability to process large amounts of data - Big Data.

The University has its own campus contract with SAS Institute, through which rental licenses are available. The following components are included in this contract.

  • SAS Educational Analytical Suite with Base SAS, SAS/STAT, SAS/GRAPH and many more modules for Windows desktops and servers as well as Linux

The JMP or JMP Genomics software, which was specifically intended for genome data analysis, has been integrated into the functional scope of JMP Pro. The JMP Pro software has no longer been included in the scope of the SAS license since 01.01.2025 and is therefore unfortunately no longer available. If you need JMP Genomics or JMP Pro, please contact us at: sas@urz.uni-heidelberg.de.

  • Students (at the faculties/institutions participating in the campus license)

Access and Requirements

First, please check with your IT representative to see if your institution already has SAS licenses. If this is the case, then contact your IT representative for licensing and installation. (At present, the following faculties and institutions are participating in the campus license with a larger number of users: Medical Faculty Heidelberg, Medical Faculty Mannheim, the Institute of Sociology, the ZI Mannheim and the URZ).

If your institute does not yet have SAS licenses, please fill out the linked order form and send it to the email address sas@urz.uni-heidelberg.de. Should your institute require a large number of SAS licenses (20 or more), please also contact the email address above.

Please refer to the linked application form for details on access requirements and licensing conditions.

Information for IT representatives:

The software can be accessed on an internal Windows drive in the form of software repositories for the contact persons of participating institutions (Access only from the university network; path available on request via the above-mentioned email address).

Technical Information

SAS has versions available for Windows and Linux.

FAQs

Table

Can I validate my SAS installation?

Yes!

In the context of clinical trials, you are often required to validate the software being used.
The URZ cannot validate your installation, but there are two tools provided with the SAS software that allow you to do so:
•    SAS Installation Qualification Tool
•    SAS Operational Qualification Tool (SAS/OQ)

The documentation for this can be found in the User's Guide under "How-tos".

Under certain circumstances, an error can occur with SAS/OQ if German has been installed in addition to the standard English language environment. In this case, the config file sasv9.cfg should be adapted accordingly and \de\ changed to \en\.
