ProjectbwForCluster MLS&WISO

High performance computer cluster for molecular life sciences and economics and social sciences 

The bwForCluster MLS&WISO was operated as a state service in locations in Heidelberg and Mannheim and was a joint project of the Heidelberg Computing Centre, the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (German acronym: IWR, responsible for development) and the computing center of the University of Mannheim. Scientists in the fields of molecular life sciences (MLS) as well as economics and social sciences (WISO) from all over Baden-Württemberg can use the computer cluster.

Status and duration

The bwForCluster MLS&WISO was in operation from 2015 and was decommissioned on 23 September 2022, as it was replaced by its successor bwForCluster Helix.

The Cluster was financed by the German Research Foundation and the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts as well as through university funds.
