Instructions for Windows 8 & 7

1. Windows 8: In the Metro (tile) interface, type ‘remote desktop connection’ and launch the programme.

Windows 7: Click: Start / All Programmes / Accessories / Remote Desktop Connection.

2. In the field ‘Computer’, enter tsneu.ad.uni-heidelberg.de or ts-mita.ad.uni-heidelberg.de, then click ‘Connect’.

3. Log in using: ad\username and password. By prefixing your user ID with ‘ad\’, you ensure that you connect to the ‘ad’ domain. For example, type ‘ad\xy123’ if ‘xy123’ is your user ID.

4. Done. The Remote Desktop window should now be open.

5. Log out: Start / Log out, as usual

6. To connect to local resources, open ‘Remote Desktop Connection’, go to the ‘Local Resources’ tab and click ‘More…’ in the ‘Local devices and resources’ field.

7. Tick the box next to ‘Drives’ and confirm by clicking ‘OK’.

8. Where possible, always end a Remote Desktop connection by logging out properly. This updates the profile and logs you out immediately. If you simply close the window, the session will be automatically terminated on the server side after around 15 minutes; however, this approach is not recommended.

Instructions for Mac OS
