30 January 2020 - Collaboration and digital teachingNew heiBOX features: Labels, virus scan, WebDAV

With the latest update, heiBOX got several new features: A labeling function for libraries and an automated virus scan have been implemented. Access to heiBOX via WebDAV is now available for all users.

Labels

  • heiBOX libraries can now be marked with labels to make it easier to recognize different data states in the version history. Labels for the individual versions of a library can be set via the heiBOX web interface by selecting the drop-down menu of the library → “Label Current State” or “Library History” → "Labels".

Automated virus scan

  • Existing and new files in unencrypted libraries now undergo a background check with an up-to-date virus scanner. If any potentially harmful files are found, the user is informed about the file name by email and receives an internal link to the file. Since no can virus scanner provide absolutely error-free detection and occasionally registers false positives, the message is only a tip - no files are deleted automatically. We recommend rechecking the affected files.

Access via WebDAV for all users

  • WebDAV access, previously only available for guest accounts, is now available for all heiBOX users. In order to use WebDAV with a Uni ID, a separate password for WebDAV access has to be set in the heiBOX web interface under “Settings” → "Password for WebDAV". heiBOX can then be accessed via WebDAV at:

https://heibox.uni-heidelberg.de/seafdav

To login, use “<uniID>@uni-heidelberg.de” and the WebDAV password. WebDAV access only works with unencrypted libraries. WebDAV is a standard protocol for file exchange over the internet and is already part of most operating systems. Using WebDAV to access heiBOX can be useful in certain specific cases. However, we recommend using the web interface or the various clients to access your files.
