There are two apprenticeship positions for IT specialists in system integration at the University Computer Centre available from 1 September 2025.

Information on (dual) training

  • Training period: 3 years, probationary period: 3 months
  • Dual training, i.e. 2 weeks of practical training at the Computing Centre, 1 week of theory at a vocational school
  • Facility: Heidelberg University Computer Centre
  • Vocational school: Hubert-Sternberg-Schule Wiesloch

What you learn with us

  • Setting up workstation computers and servers with the Windows, Linux and iOS operating systems, with emphasis on IT security and data protection
  • Installation and cabling of servers in the server room
  • Patching routers and switches
  • Conducting training for staff at the university
  • Energy saving in the IT sector (IHK Energy Scouts)
  • Support of specialist applications in the areas of e-mail, cloud, digitalisation

What you bring

  • an intermediate school leaving certificate (MSA)/Realschulabschluss, a Fachabitur or the general Abitur (A-levels)
  • German language skills (C1 level)
    since the theory part at the vocational school and the final examinations are held exclusively in German
  • good command of English
    because operating instructions, programme descriptions and technical literature are often in English
  • good understanding of mathematics
    because a good understanding of numbers and logic is important to see through complex interrelationships
  • Interest in developing IT systems to solve problems, in operating systems, programming and data security
    because these interests are important and helpful for learning and practising this profession.
