How-toSetting up an instmail account on an Apple iPhone
The following is a short set of instructions on how to set up a Heidelberg University instmail account on an Apple iPhone. An email address with the institute abbreviation “alumni” is used as an example.
1. On your iPhone, tap on “Settings” and then on "Passwords & Accounts".
2. Select "Add account".
3. Select "Other".
4. Tap on "Add Mail Account".
5. In the “Name” text box, enter your first and last name.
Under "Email", enter the following: first-name.last-name[at]institute-abbreviation.uni-heidelberg.de
Important: Here and in the following instructions, please always replace the placeholder institute-abbreviation with the correct institute from your email address.
Example: For the email address max.mustermann[at]alumni.uni-heidelberg.de, alumni is the correct institute abbreviation.
Enter a “Description” for the account to make it easier to recognise.
Then, enter the matching “Password” and tap on "Next".
6. Select "IMAP".
As both email address and username, please enter the following: first-name.last-name[@]institute-abbreviation.uni-heidelberg.de
As the “Host Name” for the "Incoming Mail Server", please enter the following: mail.alumni.uni-heidelberg.de
As the “Host Name” for the "Outgoing Mail Server", please enter the following: mail.urz.uni-heidelberg.de
Then, enter the matching password and select "Next".
7. Tap on "Save".
8. You can now find your emails in the “Mail” App on your iPhone home screen.
