ProjectbwVisu

Remote visualization of scientific data

Today, numerical simulations are an indispensable part of many academic fields. Obtaining information from these simulations often requires the use of methods from the fields of scientific visualization, data mining and information visualization. In order to meet the steadily increasing demands for simulation accuracy and to be able to handle the processing of the data volumes required for this, ever-increasing computing capacities are necessary. The costs of acquiring and operating these computing resources may be centralized or defrayed through joint use. The classic concept of remote visualization offers a practical approach to this problem: central, high-performance computing and graphics/visualization architecture can be accessed from a workstation and transmit image streams back to the end user.

The bwVisu project provides powerful visualization resources that can be used by scientific institutions in the state of Baden-Württemberg. Our goal is the development of a service for remote visualization of scientific data.

Status and duration

The project ran from November 2017 to December 2020 and is therefore now complete.

The service bwVisu is available for users. On the bwVisu service page and in the Service Catalogue linked above, you can find more information including instructions on how to start using the application. Inquiries regarding user support or any other questions can be sent to bwvisu-support@urz.uni-heidelberg.de.
