23 June 2025 - Climate Protection  URZ Team Puts the Pedal to the Metal for City Cycling

Cycling for climate protection: Every kilometer counts in the CITY CYCLING 2025 competition. The goal is to cover as much distance as possible by bike in 21 days. From June 23 to July 13, we - the URZ team - will also be racking up every possible kilometer and rolling through the city as part of a campaign for cycling, climate protection and quality of life.

CITY CYCLING is a Germany-wide campaign in which municipalities, institutions and companies join forces to set an example for sustainable mobility.  The competition has been held annually in Germany since 2008 - international partner cities have also been taking part since 2017. The aim is to raise awareness of cycling as an environmentally friendly alternative and reduce CO₂ emissions in everyday life. Every kilometer cycled counts - for the climate, for our health and for more liveable cities.

Participation is also a contribution to sustainability for the URZ: As a central service facility of Heidelberg University, we are not only committed to digital innovation but also recognize that using resources responsibly is increasingly important. Whether on the way to work, to class or in your free time - using a bike reduces emissions, eases traffic congestion and promotes a healthy lifestyle. And this is exactly what we are advocating for. By participating, we are supporting an initiative that has been combining concrete climate protection with community involvement for many years - both locally and internationally!
