19. July 2024 - Collaboration and Digital Teaching heiBOX Update
With the university sync and share service heiBOX, which is based on the software Seafile, users can synchronize, share and manage their data securely and efficiently. The upgrade of the service to the version 11.0.10 introduces new functions and improved user-friendliness.
The upgrades ensure easier collaboration, an optimized workflow and more efficient organization. A selection of the most important new features:
Better organization and greater data protection through adjustable automatic deletion (subsequent improvement of the previous version 10):
- There is now an option to have files automatically deleted from libraries after a specified period of time (see screenshot).
This option is particularly helpful if files only need to be available to certain persons (or groups) for a certain period of time, e.g. for application and admission procedures and the associated documents.
Even easier collaboration thanks to new functionalities and a clearer overview of shared files:
- The folder icon now shows whether it is shared with other users
- Files can now be copied or moved back and forth between encrypted and unencrypted libraries
- Invisible subfolders: After the update, subfolders of a library can be hidden for specific users and groups. To set this up:
1. Select " Permission" under the options for the respective subfolder.
2. In the menu on the left, select “User permission” and enter the users or groups with whom this folder is to be secretly shared.
Optimized workflow:
- After the update, deleted files indicate the path in which they were located before deletion
- On WebDAV access via the web interface, the time of the last file modification is now displayed
- Many other minor and major improvements to the user interface.
heiBOX is a secure, cost-free cloud and locally hosted service which can be used for collaboration within the University and with external cooperative partners. Detailed information about the new update can be found in the linked changelog.
