09 March 2022 – Online WorkshopsheiBOX, heiCHAT, heiCONF - Workshops for Employees and Instructors

From the 20th to the 22nd of April, the Computing Centre will be hosting beginner workshops. If you are interested, you can register for the 30-45-minute online workshops through our internal education program.

Whether it is for remote work or digital teaching, tools and services for digital collaboration are becoming ever more important. In light of this, employees have access to such services operated on our servers, which are designed to comply with data protection requirements. These services include the conference tool heiCONF, the instant messaging service heiCHAT and the University cloud storage service heiBOX,

The workshops will introduce the most important functions of these services and teach you the basics of using them. They are aimed at beginners and new staff members and will take place digitally via heiCONF.

heiCONF

heiCONF is a web conferencing system for audio and video conferences based on the software BigBlue Button. This conferencing system for digital collaboration and teaching is data-protection-compliant.

Course contents:

  • Short introduction to the University web conferencing system heiCONF for beginners.
  • Overview of the heiCONF interface and its basic functions
  • Creating conference rooms
  • Participation management options
  • Uploading presentations
  • Screen sharing

The heiCONF workshop will take place on 20 April 2022 from 15:00-15:30.

heiCHAT

The University's instant messaging service heiCHAT enables encrypted and data-protection-compliant communication via chat and real-time audio and video calls. In the context of digital teaching, heiCHAT can support interactive teaching activities and be used e.g. for groupwork among students or for Q&A chats between instructors and students.

Course contents:

  • Introduction to the heiCHAT web interface
  • Chat with individual users
  • Creating and configuring rooms
  • Starting audio and video calls
  • Activating encryption
  • Customizing settings

The heiCHAT workshop will take place on 21 April 2022 from 15:00-15:30.

heiBOX

heiBOX is a secure, free-to-use cloud service locally hosted by the University Computing Centre for collaboration within the University and with external cooperation partners. Its core functions are storing, synchronizing, sharing, publishing and collaborative editing of files.

Course contents:

  • Brief introduction to the University cloud service heiBOX for beginners
  • Creating libraries
  • Uploading files
  • Downloading files
  • Sharing files/libraries

The heiBOX workshop will take place on 22 April 2022 from 15:00-15:30.
