Time server (NTP)

In many cases, it is important to guarantee that the time settings on a server are accurate. The URZ operates a time server which provides the correct time via the Network Time Protocol (NTP). The server is synchronized by a radio-controlled clock via the DCF77 signal of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (“National Metrology Institute of Germany”) in Braunschweig.

The NTP server can be used via ntp01.urz.uni-heidelberg.de.
