How-To Set up an Exchange account in Outlook without the Active Directory
The following instructions describe how you can set up your Exchange account in the Outlook app without the Active Directory (AD).
Notes:
- Microsoft currently offers two versions of the Outlook app - Outlook (Classic) and Outlook (New). For data protection and IT security reasons, please do not use the Outlook (New) app, as this transmits data to the Microsoft Cloud.
- Further information on the email servers can be found in the link bar on the right.
1. Open “Outlook” (if you are using Office 2021 or older) or “Outlook (classic)” (if you are using a newer Office package).

2. Click on the “File” button in the bar at the top.

3. In the “Information” window, click on the “Add Account” button.

4. Enter your Exchange e-mail address and click on the “Connect” button.

5. Select the “IMAP” button under “Advanced setup”.

6. Enter the following information. Then click on “Next”:
Incoming mail:
Server: exchange.uni-heidelberg.de
Port: 143
Encryption method: auto
Outgoing mail:
Server: exchange.uni-heidelberg.de
Port: 587
Encryption method: auto

7. Enter your password and click on “Connect”.

8. A pop-up window will open with your data already filled in. Please make sure that you fill in your Uni-ID or project number in the format ad\<Uni-ID/Project number> under “User name”, not your e-mail address. In the example on the screenshot this would be: ad\xy123.
Also make sure that your password is entered correctly and check the box “Save this password in the password list”. If you do not select this option, errors may occur when configuring the mail servers.
Then click on the “OK” button.

9. You will then see a message informing you that the setup was successful. Click on the “Done” button below.
