Technical Director   Dr. Maximilian Hoecker

Dr. Maximilian Hoecker is the Technical Director of the Computing Centre and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Heidelberg University. He is also a member of the steering committee of the bwInfoSec federation, the information security network of universities and other higher education institutions in the state of Baden-Württemberg.

University roles and responsibilities

As technical director at the URZ, Dr. Hoecker is responsible for the technical planning and implementation of both IT infrastructure and IT services at the University Computing Centre. This includes the service areas Cloud Solutions & Data Analytics and Core Technologies & Collaboration Services as well as all URZ services related to IT security.

In his role as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Dr. Hoecker handles key tasks and responsibilities in the area of information security and, together with the Chief Information Officer (CIO), is responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring the university's information security strategy. This includes advising the rectorate and other relevant stakeholders on information security issues, establishing an information security management system (ISMS) and implementing continuous technical and organizational improvements. 

Inter-university Areas of Competence

bwInfoSec, the state federation for information security, provides important consulting, training and support services for universities and other higher education institutions in Baden-Württemberg. The aim of this cooperation is to improve information security at these institutions in the state. The core team responsible for universities is located at the URZ. The steering committee, which Dr. Hoecker is a member of, determines the strategic direction and thematic focus of the services provided by bwInfoSec.
