Anleitung Einrichtung eines zentralen Multifunktionsdruckers unter Linux
The following section describes how to set up and use a centrally located multifunction printer on Linux.
These instructions apply to all devices purchased under the 2021 framework agreement.
Tested with Debian Sid (Oct. 2022); other distributions may require a different package manager and, in some cases, different package names!
How to Set Up the Printer
1. Install the following packages:
- smbclient
- printer-driver-gutenprint
To do this, open a terminal and enter the command
sudo apt install smbclient printer-driver-gutenprint foomatic-db
Wait until the installation is complete.
2. Open the CUPS printer settings (system-config-printer). If necessary, unlock the user interface, and then click “Add" / „Hinzufügen“.

3. Click “Enter Address” / "Adresse eingeben" on the left. Enter the following address (please replace the sample university ID “ab123” and the corresponding password provided here with your own):
smb://AD%5Cab123:Password@129.206.14.72/SecurePrint_nichtAD
Click “Next" / „Vorwärts“.

4. In the dialog box, select “Generic” as the manufacturer and click “Next" / „Vorwärts“.

5. On the left, under “Models,” select Postscript. On the right, under “Drivers" / “Treiber“ select Generic PostScript Printer Foomatic/Postscript.

6. Click “Next” / „Vorwärts“ to complete the setup and name the printer. The printer should now be ready to use.
How to Print Your Jobs
All print jobs you send via the SecurePrint printer are sent to the central print server at the URZ and can then be printed on any multifunction device on campus to which you have access.
To do this, you must log in to the desired device using your university ID (or project number). Alternatively, you can also use a university card (e.g., your CampusCard or Service Card) to log in. On administrative printers, the card must be set up once—the linked instructions describe how to do this.
After logging in, select the “Secure Print” menu item to view and print the jobs you’ve sent to the print server.
