06 August 2025 - Directorate The URZ Expands Its Directorate: New structure for greater efficiency
Since July 2025, Joana K. Hahn, who has earned a graduate degree in biology and an MBA, has joined the management team of the Computing Centre as a new director, alongside managing director Prof. Dr. Vincent Heuveline and technical director Dr. Maximilian Hoecker. The expansion of the leadership team is intended to reflect the increased demands of IT, ensure the future viability of the Computing Centre and promote cooperation in industry and science.

Increasing digitization presents the University Computer Centre with new challenges, which increasingly include tasks in the area of organizational and process management in addition to those on the technical level. In order to meet these challenges, Joana K. Hahn will be joining the directorate as an ideal addition to the existing team with her many years of management experience in university administration and medicine. The management team at the URZ consists of the directorate as well as the heads of our five service areas.
The new director will be responsible in particular for personnel, finance and resource management as well as national and international cooperation. She is also head of the administrative office. A new addition is the responsibility for the Data Protection Unit at the URZ. This expansion has also resulted in changes to the division of the existing service areas and staff positions in the directorate. Joana K. Hahn is responsible for Support & Service Management, while Prof. Dr. Vincent Heuveline heads Future IT - Research & Education and Smart Campus Solutions and the Communications department. Dr. Maximilian Hoecker is responsible for Cloud Solutions & Data Analytics, Core Technologies & Collaborations Services and the Change Management department.
Bolstering our capacities for the digital future
The reorganization of the directorate is intended to enable the URZ to perform its tasks as an IT service provider and IT partner more efficiently through the clear distribution of responsibilities and competencies. The appointment of Joana K. Hahn as director means that the Computing Centre has a team with diverse and complementary specialties to meet the diverse and increasingly complex challenges in the IT and organizational landscape. The newly defined areas of responsibility will enable the management team to react more quickly to ever-changing demands, adapt services more effectively and expand alliances in the areas of research, science and industry in order to foster greater transmission into business and society.
