ServiceTime Server

Clock synchronization for computer systems

The URZ operates a time server that sets the exact time using the NTP protocol (Network Time Protocol). The NTP server is synchronized to a radio clock via the DCF77 signal transmitted by the atomic clocks of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) Braunschweig.
The server can be used worldwide without any restrictions.

Target group

  • University members
  • External members

Use

  • Having the accurate time is the foundation for interaction between various IT systems.
  • Email and instant messages need an accurate timestamp, as do network packets and file timestamps.

Access and requirements

You can access the time server without authentication simply by entering the server address in your operating system.
