How-toSet up a printer to print from the print server on Windows

The following how-to will describe how to set up a printer to print from the print server on Windows. When a printer is set up this way, you can send print jobs to public and administrative devices.

In the Start menu search box, enter the network address of the Inepro server: \\inepro.ad.uni-heidelberg.de

(Click on the start menu symbol or press the windows key and begin typing. The network address given above will automatically be recognized as a command.)

2. Use a workstation device that is not a member of the domain.

In the “Windows Security” dialog box that appears, log in to the domain using your user identification (Uni ID) and password. Don't forget to check the box next to “Remember my credentials” so that you can still access the printer after restarting your computer. If you do not want to save your login details, you can also configure the printer to the Inepro server itself (Local printer, connection: standard TCP/IP port, IP address: inepro.ad.uni-heidelberg.de, LPR-Port 515, queue Ricoh Inepro, LPR byte counting enabled, print driver Universal Ricoh PCL6).

3. The network window with the Inepro server inepro.ad.uni-heidelberg.de will open and show the print queue RICOH_INEPRO.

Printing

You can now print from any of the decentralized (i.e. set up by department) public photocopiers and printers, as well as from administrative devices for authorized employees. After registering with your Uni ID (or your URZ identification), you will receive a list of all your documents on the print server. You can simply select the document to be printed (and pay for the print job with your student ID/CampusCard, if applicable).

Printing with various user IDs

When you set up a printer using the process described above, the login name or user ID you used when creating the printer will be used as the sending user ID. The username must be a Uni ID or project number.

If you are logged in with a different username, you can use the Inepro mini-client to provide the desired Uni ID or project number. To do this the mini-client must be installed and running.

If you use multiple cost centers, you can use the Inepro cost center client to select the desired cost center and add it to the print output. Otherwise, you must select the desired cost center using the printer panel.

Installing the mini-client and the cost center client

For Windows, please download the mini-client for Windows (link in the sidebar) or the cost center client for Windows (link in the sidebar) and start the installation. The installation packages already contain the options customized for Heidelberg University.

The mini-client runs in the background and usually does not open a window. If the provided username is unknown to the Inepro server, a window will pop up in which you can enter the username you wish to use.

The cost center client runs in the background and will only open a dialog box if you are using more than one cost center.
