10 February 2026 – IT security New impulses for IT security and young researchers

Sharing knowledge, strengthening security: The bwInfoSec core team is continuing its information events and talks on information security. The next round of “bwInfoSec Talks” lectures began in early 2026, focusing on the detection and defense of security threats. In April, a keynote speech will complement the start of the SPRING graduate workshop, which is dedicated to the topic of censorship on the Internet.

Lectures, research, networking: bwInfoSec Talks and SPRING Workshop provide inspiration for IT security

The bwlnfoSec Talks focus on technical and overarching organizational aspects of information security in the context of colleges and universities. These institutions face the challenge of adapting to the fast-paced digital world while preserving their freedom of research and teaching without having to accept restrictions. Both preventive and reactive measures are necessary to effectively counter security threats. The lecture series presents concrete approaches: Pentesting can be used to identify and remedy vulnerabilities in critical infrastructures such as Active Directory before an attack occurs. OpenCTI makes it possible to understand current threat situations and prepare for them in a targeted manner. At the same time, universities must be able to respond appropriately to successful attacks – an aspect that will be explored in depth during the workshop on reactive security. The combination of these strategies helps universities increase their resilience to cyberattacks and secure their future viability.

IT security for bachelor's and master's students: Call for papers

The SPRING graduate workshop, which will take place this year on April 21 and 22, 2026, in Heidelberg, also offers young scientists in the field of reactive safety the opportunity to establish topic-related contacts beyond their own university. This event, which is regularly organized by the Security - Intrusion Detection and Response (SIDAR) specialist group and the Young Scientists Advisory Board (JuWi) of the German Informatics Society, offers young scientists in the field of reactive security in particular the opportunity to present and discuss their projects. The call for papers is open until March 15.
Parts of the workshop will be broadcast as part of the bwInfoSec Talks and will provide an up-to-date insight into the research.

The events are organized by bwInfoSec, a federation of universities and colleges in Baden-Württemberg that have joined forces to improve information security at universities and colleges in the state. The core information security team at bwInfoSec is based at the Heidelberg University Computer Center and the University Service Center on the Reutlingen University campus.

The events are open to the public and will all be broadcast online. Registration for the events is not necessary.
